Wills

Lamb & Holmes Solicitors have been providing expert legal advice for over 200 years.

Our Private Client Department is located across both our Kettering and Corby offices. We also work with our clients who are based not only in Northamptonshire but neighbouring counties and further afield.

Our Private Client Department specialises in the drafting and writing of Wills.  We have been writing Wills professionally for over 200 years. Our team of experienced and qualified Solicitors and legal experts provide a personal service, ensuring that each Will is tailor-made to suit the client’s individual needs, taking account of their particular personal and business circumstances.

Nearly everyone has thought of making a Will at some point, but only 30 percent of us have actually done so.  Even the most sensible of us often wrongly assume that making a Will is something that can be put off until tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the absence of a Will, or a self-written document, can mean instructions on how your estate should be dealt with are unclear and lack legal standing. This can lead to disputes over property, belongings and finance.  By having a professionally written Will in place you will ensure your wishes are respected and will provide certainty for your friends and family.

If you die without leaving a Will, otherwise known as being intestate, your estate is distributed according to rules set out by statute which might not be in accordance with your wishes and so may not be appropriate for your estate. This is an extremely stressful time for everyone involved and that is why having a Will in place is so important so that nothing can be left to chance.

Here are some of the issues that may arise:

  • If you die without leaving a Will (intestate):
  • Your money and possessions may not automatically pass to your next of kin; there are rules which direct which family members inherit if their relative dies intestate.
  • Relations who might be distant relations have to be traced which can lead to long delays, expense and hardship for the immediate family.
  • At present, there is no automatic right to inherit in the intestate rules or in statute for common law spouses to inherit  the money and possessions

In our team of highly experienced professionals, we have members of STEP and legal experts who will meet with you to discuss your individual needs and requirements. During your meeting, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to meet with us at our offices in Kettering and Corby we are able to offer a home or hospital visit instead. This may incur a fee if more than two miles away. We can also provide witnesses if needed.

"We were very impressed by Linda Brooks who made home visits which helped the family considerably. Health issues made visiting your office difficult".

Mr Litchfield

“Mrs Linda Brooks who has dealt with the estate of the late Alice Marden has been most friendly and professional. My aunt spoke highly of her. I am sorry that we did not meet however, we had numerous calls, and she sounds a warm, lively person with a great sense of humour.

All the legal work required seems to have been accomplished efficiently and I am grateful that she made it all very ‘user-friendly’. I would like to thank her for all her work and the support she has given”.

Thank you, Linda

M Maisey

By Edward Lamb, Solicitor and Partner in the firm One of my voluntary trusteeships is with Life Path Trust.  This is a charity group that supports people with learning disabilities in Coventry and Warwickshire and has support services in Oxfordshire too.  The welfare of people with special needs is fairly well catered for whilst they are of compulsory school age.  The special needs schools tend to be well supported and one example is the annual Rotary sponsored KIDS OUT day...
